About UM Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE)

The Universiti Malaya Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE) serves as the technology transfer office for Universiti Malaya, a well-established and respected Malaysian university. UMCIE's primary role is to bridge the gap between academic research and industry by facilitating the commercialization of innovative technologies, services, and research outcomes developed within the university. This unit is dedicated to supporting and assisting both staff and students in their entrepreneurial endeavors, while also engaging with industry and public stakeholders to foster collaborative efforts and drive economic growth through innovation.

UMCIE has a rich history that reflects its evolving focus on innovation and commercialization. It began in 1998 as the Department of Business Development, transitioned to the Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Unit in 2001, and became the UM Centre of Innovation and Commercialization (UMCIC) in 2009. In 2021, it was rebranded as the UM Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE) to better reflect its expanded role and mission. UMCIE is located at the Research Management & Innovation Complex (RMIC) at Universiti Malaya, providing a dedicated space for fostering research, innovation, and entrepreneurial activities within the university.
