What is a trademark?
  
Any sign that can be represented graphically and that is capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one business from those of other businesses.
 
A trademark includes any letter, word, name, signature, numeral, device, brand, heading, label, ticket, shape of goods or their packaging, color, sound, scent, hologram, positioning, sequence of motion or any combination thereof may be trademarked.

Function of trademark
 
  1.  Origin - a trade mark helps to identify the source of products and services in the marketplace. It can also indicate the company or individual responsible for their manufacture or delivery. Trade marks can be an important factor in consumer choice, helping to distinguish one product from another.
  2. Choice - a trade mark helps consumers to easily identify and choose goods and services.
  3. Quality - a trade mark is defined by consumers for its known quality.
  4. Marketing - trade marks play a significant role in promoting consumer awareness and brand recognition. Advertising campaigns that feature trade marks can have a continuous and positive effect on consumer behavior, often leading to increased sales.
  5. Economic -  a trade mark can be a valuable asset for a business. Trade marks can be licensed or franchised to allow others to use them.
