Problem Statement

Electric vehicles (EVs) will be dominant. Batteries are vital in the use of EVs. Battery manufacturers often use liquid electrolytes that are flammable and can lead to explosions. Another problem is unoptimised electrolytes and electrodes, which can lead to many problems. Others manufacturer batteries using Solid Polymer electrolytes, poor contact between the electrolytes and electrodes can lead to a battery that doesn't meet expectations. Another type is using Liquid electrolytes can also lead to leakage and corrosion. Hence the challenges for battery manufacturers in providing reliable energy solutions are still unresolved.

Solution Statement

UM has patented gel-electrolyte for supercapattery, a fabricated hybrid energy storage device that can offer higher energy density than supercapacitors (10-100 Wh/kg) and high power capabilities than batteries (0.1 - 3 kW/kg). Using gel-type electrolyte, this is achieved by combining the capacitance nature in the carbon-based electrode, the faradaic nature of the hybrid binder-free electrode design, and the highly conductive lightweight hydrogel electrolyte. The outcome is uninterrupted transportation of sodium ion that generates electricity.

Supercapattery brings advantages of its offers like reducing liquid electrolytes onto carbonate-based, which are easier to be permitted, and the replacement of battery gives flexibility to the battery. The reduction of this battery thickness makes the devices more compact and lighter than ever. A unique lithium battery design can further develop its uniqueness.
