Problem Statement

High electricity usage in water treatment facility


Electricity is part of running a typical water treatment station. This is true for companies like Syabas and Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad. A water treatment station uses electricity to have continuous operation. Electricity contributes to 55% of the total operating cost in a water treatment station.
 

The other challenge is thinning revenue for water treatment companies. They are looking for new ways to increase revenue.

Solution Statement

Patented in-pipe hydro power system


The solution is patented in-pipe hydropower to generate clean and sustainable electricity. This special design will use the existing pipes water velocity. They will be in the new by-passed pipes to generate electricity. This newly generated electricity will supplement the current electricity usage for the water treatment facility. This, in turn, will reduce the operating cost. This technology is suitable due to the size of the pipes that are available. Together with the volume of water to generate electricity.
 

Another opportunity for the water treatment company is to sell the electricity back to Tenaga Nasional grid. This is far more advantageous since it's 24 hours of electricity generation. In comparison to other forms of green energy such as solar. This will be an additional revenue segment for the water treatment companies.
