Problem Statement

Food fraud adulteration and mislabelling of meat products has become a major food security problem in recent years. Deliberately or unintentionally adulterating meat can cause adverse health effects, as well as violate ethical norms and religious laws. The current state of the food industry highlights the need for more comprehensive protection mechanisms, and the need for corporations to ensure that their supply chains are trustworthy. Why is it important? Fake food causes severe health issues, and in the case of food which has been deliberately adulterated, it may be unethical. How do you know if it's beef or horse meat? Then the issue also arise in mixing  of non-Halal materials into Halal products which is very sensitive religious issue. It's more challenging existing single-species detection systems that are time-consuming, expensive and laborious.

Solution Statement

Our patented multiplex PCR system is a useful tool for detecting and identifying various meat species. The heptaplex PCR system, allows the detection of seven different meat species of cow, buffalo, chicken, duck, goat, sheep and pig. This helps in achieving an accurate and reliable identification of the packaged and processed meat products that are present in the market.
The heptaplex PCR system has a number of benefits over the alternative tools available in the market. It is a rapid, specific, sensitive, cost-effective and also simultaneous detection of short-targeted mitochondrial DNA of meat. The heptaplex PCR system has a potential to be used as an alternative to other tools available that are not able to do the same.
